The oil corridor is the biggest land story in Uganda. Our Hoima desk follows compensation files, resettlement houses and the clinics that were promised beside them.
The Hoima desk covers EACOP, Tilenga, Kingfisher and the refinery zone. The paperwork is enormous, but the questions are simple: who lost land, what were they paid, when did the money come, and what stands on the plot today.
We sit with affected households and read their valuation forms with them. Then we take the numbers to the district land office and to the operators for comment.
We also track the health side of the corridor: camp clinics, road safety on the new access roads, and water quality near the pads.
Resettlement houses that were built with a signed grievance route get fixed faster when something fails. Several households we followed finally received revised valuations after their files were reopened.
